    I agree with the above, burn more calories than you consume. BUT I’ve read that you shouldn’t decrease your caloric intake. That’ll just send your body into survival starvation mode and cling to any calories it can.

    I’ve included a link to an article that talks about how many calories you should consume.

    Consume your allotted amount and then exercise and burn off calories. 3500 calories equals 1 pound. I always try to burn 500 extra calories a day. This is actually relatively simple. Start with a 45 minute to 1 hour walk (going about 3.5 mph) and you should burn about 150-200 calories there. Yoga is about half that amount (100 calories in an hour) and then add little things (park a little further away and walk more, housework, walk to the mailbox or to places within walking distance) and then maybe a stationary bike for 20-30 minutes (approximately 150 calories) and you’re golden. And if you choose to do strength exercises or weight lifting, that puts you above 500 calories easy. Of course, that’s a lot of time, so I’d say try burning about 300 calories a day.

    I am assuming that you want to lose weight, you need to be concerned with how many calories you burn compared to how many you take in. Once you have used your glucose stores your body will start to use fat.

    To answer your question, your high intensity will burn glucose, but, once you get rid of these stores your body will burn the fat. Remember that if you exercise with low intensity and burn your fat stores and leave the glucose , your body will turn the glucose into fat. Exercise hard and watch your caloric intake.

    You cannot target weight loss. However, strength traing builds muscle and muscle naturally burns fat, but it would be best to strength train all over but focus on cardio — that’s where you really burn fat. Strengthening the stomach gives nice tone and definition, though.
